Youth Exchange

Short and Long Term Youth Exchange
Since 1927, students and host families all over the world have had
their horizons broadened and their lives enriched by the generosity of
Rotary's Youth Exchange program. Administered by Rotary clubs,
districts and multidistrict groups, the program today involves more
than 82 countries and over 8,000 students each year.

New Generations Short Term Youth Exchange (STYE) - Summer Youth Exchange Program with Japan
See the exotic east during this special three week adventure!
A rare opportunity to experience Japan - students aged 15 to 23 are eligible to join a group of their peers for this trip to Japan. This three week summer adventure is a Rotary sponsored cultural exchange program. Over the past 28 years, over 700 students have made the trip. It offers the rare opportunity to visit Japan for the cost of the transportation alone.
Live with Japanese families - The group chaperoned by District 7470 Rotarians, will depart in the first week of July for Shikoku Island, Japan, where they will be hosted by families of Japanese Rotarians. Participants have found that this provides an unparalleled opportunity to understand their culture and customs on a personal level.
What will I see? During their stay, participants will visit many cultural, entertainment, business and government sites in the southern part of the country. Cities to be visited include Osaka, Kyoto, Matsuyama, Kochi and Hiroshima.
What does it cost? The estimated cost of air and ground transportation to Shikoku Island is approximately $2400.00. This may vary according to air fares at the time that the tickets are purchased. Rotary attempts to get the best possible group rate on a recognized commercial carrier. Expenses incurred for housing, meals and local transportation will be borne by the Japanese Rotarians.
How do I find more information? If you are interested, please contact Tony Romano at (973) 403-1583 or e-mail. You will be asked to fill out the Rotary Short Term Youth Exchange Application and will be contacted to schedule an interview sometime in February with the district short term youth exchange committee. There you will learn more details of the trip and be able to talk with people who have made the trip in the past. Please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page now.
Students must have a valid passport at least one month prior to the time of departure.
